Internships or Paid Opportunities
Perhaps you may not be able to offer a compensated role, however you can offer experience. Many youth have limited to no career experience and this can be a great opportunity for you to support them. By offering an internship experience you're really offering:expanded career skills,a professional network,a chance to consider your name as professional reference,and letter(s) of recommendationIf you're able to offer compensation (even minimum wage) in addition to what's listed above, then even better!
How to Get Started?
Build a connection between your company and a local inner-city school. If you're not a major "decision maker", introduce the idea to your higher-ups as a chance to make a difference during these tough times and receive administrative support. Young people are "pros" when it comes to social media platforms, virtual tools, video conferencing, and are able to learn quickly!
